Cuba Continua, October 2 - October 15

Workshop led by Cosmin Bumbutz

A two-week workshop in Cuba, in the cities Havana and Trinidad, for 10 participants, admitted in order of registration. This workshop is aimed at photographers interested in shooting in a colourful, full of light and warm environment, with cheerful and friendly people.

The workshop

Participants will be divided into groups and they will work through an intensive program of shooting, daily reviews, editing sessions. In the evening, participants will work on their selection (it is recommended to bring a laptop) and they will be encouraged to take part in the group critiques. During the workshop, students will learn to develop their visual language and photographic identity and acquire practical, technical and conceptual skills. Also, students will learn to communicate with the people and to be accepted in the Cuban communities. 

Students are advised to choose a photographic story in Havana and/or Trinidad and learn more about this subject in advance. If students want to work on a story, they will be guided by the trainer.

The best photos taken during the workshop will be exhibited in Bucharest, in a group exhibition.

Requirements

Photographers will attend the workshop with their own equipment. It is recommended that students arrive in Havana with a project idea they wish to develop during the workshop. Research should be conducted before the workshop begins. The themes of the projects will be discussed in the first day of the workshop and students will be responsible for their own project coordination.

Tuition

€500 plus VAT (if necessary). Does not include travel, medical assurance, accommodations or on the ground expenses. €250 of the tuition fee will need to be paid in advance by the 30th of June and the rest of the fee will need to be paid until 30th of August. Other details about the payment and the trip to Cuba will be notified by e-mail, after the confirmation of registration.

10 students will be admitted at the workshop, in order of registrations. If less than 5 participants will register until 30th of June, the workshop is cancelled and the fee will be fully refunded.

When you register, please send a short biography and a portfolio of 20 pictures (JPG, 72 DPI, 800 PX). The portfolio will help the trainer to find out more about the level and the interests of the students.

Travel & Accommodation

Participants are expected to make their own arrangements regarding traveling to Havana. Accommodation will be arranged for the students who confirmed their registration. Students will be taught to make transactions in the local currency, to negotiate and get better prices for accommodation and food. The approximate cost for a day in Cuba is 32 € per day per person (double room accommodation, three meals and two beers included).

The trainer is not responsible for any accidents, health problems or other unpleasant incidents in which students could be involved. Please ensure you have the necessary travel documents and visas in order to attend the workshop.
